Warriors Through Time - "Nicolette" the Musketeer

The newest addition to the English New Model Army during the English Civil War, the musketeer was still looked upon with prejudice and ranked lower than a hired pikeman. Still, they represented the first large scale use of firearms in Europe and were similarly used in the Middle East by Ottoman Janissary and in Japan during the Warring States Period all during the same relative period of time. Though disliked for their early tendency to explode and inaccuracy, their use in large scale battle would signify their ascendancy to a better station in the coming years.

Nicolette is dressed a member of the New Model Army under Oliver Cromwell. The "standard issue" when it was present was that of a matchlock musket, bandoleer with typically twelve wooden powder flasks and a small pouch to hold the musket balls. The uniform was usually nothing more than a red shirt and knee length trousers with no pockets forcing the soldiers to carry their personal belongings in belt pouches.

Fun Fact: Twelve shots worth of powder was usually the largest amount any musketeer would carry into battle. As the firearms were more reliable than their arquebus "fathers" they were still prone to misfires, jams, breaks, or rendered useless by the user double loading the barrel. Thus, if the user was able to get twelve shots off without incident, it was a small miracle.
