Warriors Through Time - "Chizuru" the Samurai

Originally a type of warrior/servant class to nobility, their military abilities soon became such that they were a sign of wealth and power in themselves. Raised from childhood to use their traditional weapon, the katana, samurai were ingrained with the ideals of honor, strength, and duty. The first mentioning of this warrior class is in the 900's AD and they would serve as active military to lords, shoguns, emperors and only the complete occupation of Japan after World War II would cause the last remnants to fade away. However, the ideals of honor and steadfast integrity survive in Japanese culture to this day.

Chizuru is dressed as a late 18th century samurai with a mixture of metal and leather armor. Though proficient with longbows, spears, katana, wakizashi (short sword), and tanto (dagger), the typical samurai went into melee battle with only katana and wakizashi in tow. The armor was meant to provide the best protection possible while enabling the warrior to keep high mobility during battle.

Fun Fact: Each samurai would go into battle with a personal flag attached to the back of their armor, usually a symbol of their lord or clan.
